While ground was technically broken several weeks ago with the site prepared and forms built, Yesterday the cement was finally poured in the first phase of building our new medical clinic here in Port Au Prince. With a team from Cottonwood Church, California working along side of our Haitian staff and the project being overseen by Bill Shelton, the foundation was poured and complete in just under 6 hours in the blazing summer heat. In the next few days we should have the Styrofoam building panels from the Dominican Republic and are hoping to be complete by mid September.
This will be the first phase of our clinic program, providing examine rooms, an admin area, storage and a pharmacy. In the future we hope to build a second building that will house a lab and x-ray room as well as a small out patient surgery room and recovery area.
Upon completion in September, FOMM will again be scheduling medical teams to come and serve the people of Port Au Prince. We are hoping to find 50 doctors and other other medical personnel that will commit to one week of time each year to come and treat the Haitian people. We will also target medical specialist to do specialized clinics throughout the year (eye exams, dental, prosthetics, etc). If you would like to volunteer for this or are ready to schedule your trip, please contact us for information.
We still have a long way to go and will need your continuing partnership to help finance the completion of this project. If you can help with this, please contact us. This clinic will be an incredible witness to the people of Port Au Prince and you can be a part of this miracle!
