The 2009-2010 school years ends in just a few short days for Morning Star Christian Academy. When the school year started there were close to 300 students from Pre-K to 12th grade. After the earthquake on January 12th, the student population fell to just under 100 students. Morning Star was one of the first schools in the nation to repair it’s facilities and reopen it’s doors. Since the quake, we have had half day classes, continuing the education of tomorrows future leaders. The school year ran a little later than normal so that all students could finish up their courses, including the graduating class of 2010!

The senior class this year will produce only four graduates who finished out the school year despite the conditions and circumstances our young people had to face and overcome. The class of 2010 will be a special graduation here at Morning Star and the class is sure to remember this as one of the hardest years of their lives, and yet they finished their race well! We are sure that many who had to leave or were unable to return and finish their year will indeed be back next year!

We have students that lost parents, homes and family businesses and some that are still living on the streets under tarps or in tents, and still they come to one of the few places where stability exist. After weeks of being afraid of going into the school buildings and meeting in the yard, under trees or in the courtyard, all students are back in their classes. Please pray for the staff and families of Morning Star! Pray for a great enrollment year. We are asking for 300+ students for the 2010-2011 school year! There are many schools still damaged and empty so Morning Star stands ready to open her doors to those who lost their own schools! Pray for teachers and staff to be rested and refreshed and for all the material needs the school has!

As for those needs, we are asking for the following:

1) 200 school desks (ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET SURPLUS SCHOOL DISTRICT ITEMS??)
2) 20 computers (desk or laptop) for our classrooms
3) Office supplies (copy paper, staplers, scissors, pens, markers, pencils, etc.)
4) School supplies for students (lined paper, pens, pencils, crayons, etc.)

We will be loading a container to ship to Haiti in August! You can make arrangements to have items shipped to Melbourne or you can contribute financially by using PayPal or sending your donation earmarked for “school supplies” to:
